Riccardo Muti conducts the world premiere of Jessie Montgomery’s Transfigure to Grace with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra May 11 – May 16
Musical America has named Jessie as Composer of the Year, alongside other award recipients Hilary Hahn, Seymon Bychkov, and Yuval Sharon.
Beginning in Fall 2022, Jessie will join the The Bard College Conservatory of Music alongside fellow composer Missy Mazzoli.
With an original score by Jessie and Joel Goodman, the feature-length documentary explores the multifaceted figure that is Rev. Al Sharpton.
Taking effect in July 2021, the three-year residency includes — among else — the commissioning of three new works for the orchestra, and curation of CSO MusicNOW.
As part of the collaborative commissioning project that is Rounds, acclaimed pianist Awadagin Pratt will record the work with Grammy-nominated ensemble A Far Cry in summer 2022 with New Amsterdam Records. Watch this space! See Events page for upcoming live performances…
Jessie speaks with Gustavo Dudamel and curates a special LA Phil SOUND/STAGE program, including Records From a Vanishing City and music by Ellen Reid.
The Cathedral Choral Society and Cincinnati Symphony will premiere the work on May 28th.
From June 27 to July 1, Jessie worked closely with the 2022 Piano & Strings fellows, providing lessons and coaching them on her repertoire. The residency work culminated with performances of Source Code, Break Away, and Peace on July 2.
