“Jessie Montgomery’s ebullient music, alive with vernacular influences, has made her one of the highest visibility American composers these days. Snapshots, a Dallas Symphony commission, will be premiered in a program with two other American works inspired by musical vernaculars: George Antheil’s Jazz Symphony and David Chesky’s American Bluegrass. The program’s second half features Brahms’ Second Piano Concerto, with pianist Rudolf Buchbinder. Music director Fabio Luisi will conduct the Oct. 12 performance, but, because of a scheduling conflict, assistant conductor Maurice Cohn will lead Oct. 14 and 15.”
